About Randburg

Randburg is located in the North-Western part of the greater Johannesburg. This modern city is made up by over 32 leafy Suburbs, mostly residential and all interblended with cultural diversity and beautiful architectural design.

After plans were drawn up to develop a central business district in the early 1960’s, the retail activity comprised a shopping strip along Jan Smuts Ave and Hendrik Verwoerd Drive, which resulted in the astonishing growth that crafted the infrastructure for Randburg’s strong business orientated Urban design.

In 2004, Johannesburg approved plans to declare the Randburg CBD a city improvement district (CID) were approved. By 2005 the City of Johannesburg assisted in revitilising Randburg with the financial input of R5-million for development. The transformation since can be noticed by the incredibly vibrant mixture of commercial development and suburban lifestyle in Randburg.

Randburg is an upmarket area home to many family friendly entertainment facilities and park like areas. Also in Randburg, one will find large, lavish homes and an abundance of boutiques. Formerly known as the Randburg  Waterfront, Brightwater Commons is one of Johannesburg’s more familiar entertainment, restaurant and shopping centres. The Brightwater Commons is designed around the concept of an urban shopping space.

The refurbishment of the Brightwater Commons demonstrates a transformation from a stark harbor and warehouse development into a welcoming small town streetscape. It is well-known for its wide selection of restaurants which offer a variety of cuisines.
